Building A Website From Scratch
Tips For Building a Website From Scratch
There are many great templates and programs out there that can help you build a website. I prefer to use WordPress and my themes from Studiopress. Sometimes, you can get one up and running within hours. However, not everyone is happy with the choices and limitations of already made sites or with the limited options for personalization.
If you want to go about building a website from scratch, you are going to spend far more time doing it, but on the other hand, you can build exactly what you want and you never have to worry that your site looks just like another site that can be found online. If you have the time and are willing to learn, you can build anything you want.
Before you start building a website from scratch, you do have to understand that this is not easy. There is a lot of coding that goes into a website and one little mistake can really throw you off. If you know little to nothing about coding and HTML, you may spend a year trying to build your site without any success whatsoever. If you want to learn about this stuff, this can be a fun way to learn, but if you know nothing and you do not have the time, you may better benefit from buying a ready-made site from someone or using a program that allows you to start a site within minutes.
When you start, find a good host first. You want to find a host that allows you as much bandwidth as you need without charging you huge fees each month. There are a few good hosts out there for those building a website from scratch, so look around and compare. See which one offers things that cover your needs. You can find recommendations and reviews online, but remember that the one that works best for someone else may not be the best choice for you. Taking time to research your options now can save you some aggravation in the future.
You also have to come up with a great URL for your website. You want something as direct and short as possible, but you will have to wade through the possibilities to see what is available. Try to find something that directly relates to your site and what you are offering, and then decide which alternatives may work. Some that sell domain names will offer up suggestions if your chosen name is taken. Some may work and some may not. Take your time with this as well, as this is an important part of your online identity.
Do not go too complicated when you are building a website from scratch for the first time. You can make a great looking site without getting to complicated. If you are trying to set things up that you simply do not understand, your site is going to look messy, will not function correctly, and will turn people off immediately. Go for something simple yet stunning, and then work on your skills as you go. With the right dedication, you can run a great site no matter from where you began.
